The tissues of the |stomach| wall are composed of three types of |muscle fibers|: circular, longitudinal, and oblique. These |muscle fibers| allow the elasticity and the |contractions| of the |stomach| which help digestion. The circular muscles form the external layer of the |stomach| wall and wrap around the |greater curvature|. The longitudinal |muscle fibers| are also on the external layer of the |stomach|, but run lengthwise along the |lesser curvature|. The oblique |muscle fibers| form the intermediate layer of |stomach| tissue, between the outer muscle layer and the inner mucous layer.
